Michigan State basketball came away with a 22-point win over Stony Brook on Sunday evening despite an injury to Miles Bridges.

After driving by a Stony Brook defender in the middle of the second half, Miles Bridges went down and clutched his ankle. Michigan State fans were in full-blown panic mode as the star sophomore was holding his ankle in pain. He went to the locker room and never returned.

Although replays show he twisted his ankle, there was no word immediately as to what happened. But judging by his history — missing games with a high-ankle sprain last year — it looks to be a sprain and that’s bad news for the Spartans heading into the Phil Knight Invitational.

Here’s a screenshot of the ankle injury:

The injury did take away from the 93-71 win a bit, but Michigan State had plenty of positives from the double-digit victory on Sunday. They looked like an improved team after the Duke loss, hitting open shots as well as the boards. The Spartans won the rebound battle 41-25.

Freshman forward Xavier Tillman played extended minutes and looked to take Michigan State fans’ minds off the loss of Bridges, scoring a new career-high nine points to go along with five rebounds and three blocks. He played well as fellow freshman Jaren Jackson Jr. was held scoreless before fouling out.

The Spartans, namely Josh Langford, shot the ball well, making 58 percent of their jumpers, but only 33 percent from 3-point range. Langford finished with 19 points and Nick Ward dominated with 22 points and 11 boards, his first double-double of the year.
