Michigan State Football: 5 takeaways from loss to Ohio State in Week 11
2. Brian Lewerke will be just fine
Looking at the numbers, it’s easy to criticize the accuracy of Brian Lewerke. There was a point in the game where he threw seven incompletions and looked as rattled as any quarterback in recent memory. He was off, there’s no doubt about it, but that’s what happens when you’re constantly running for your life in the pocket.
Lewerke finished the game 18-of-36 for 131 yards and two interceptions. He didn’t reach the end zone through the air and was not his normal self. Is there reason to worry? Absolutely not.
The young quarterback is still in his first year as the full-time starter under center and he’s going to have rough games every now and then. He’s coming off back-to-back 400-yard performances, including some broken MSU records along the way, and he has proven himself on a national stage.
The Ohio State game might have been a slight step in the wrong direction, but Lewerke is going to be just fine. This kid has plenty of confidence and he’s going to learn from the mistakes while the offensive line will never put him in that position again.
