Michigan State Football: 5 best game in series history vs. Ohio State
By Stephen Robb
2. Michael Geiger field goal beats Buckeyes 17-14 (2015)
No Connor Cook? No problem. Michigan State used quarterbacks Tyler O’Connor and Damion Terry to upset No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus.
Ohio State was led by quarterback JT Barrett and running back Ezekiel Elliot. The Buckeyes had College Football Playoff hopes and were already eyeing another national championship. However, the vaunted Buckeyes were shut down by the Spartan defense.
Key Spartan miscues fueled the Buckeye offense. Terry fumbled setting up the first Ohio State touchdown and later MacGarrett Kings Jr. muffed a punt giving Ohio State tremendous field position. The weather was terrible that night and affected both teams. Elliot had been unstoppable until he ran into the brick wall of the Spartan defense.
Ohio State was unable to move the ball through the air and had to resort to JT Barrett quarterback runs. Michigan State kicker Michael Geiger will be forever be remembered for kicking the game winner and then doing his windmill afterwards.
Great memories from this one.
