Michigan State football took an early lead over Michigan because of a short touchdown run against Michigan, 7-3.

Early on, Michigan vs. Michigan State was a defensive battle. Heck, it was what everyone expected. However, the Spartans found a way to reach the end zone thanks to a forced fumble by Joe Bachie in Michigan territory.

That led to a short drive by the Spartans which was capped off by a 14-yard touchdown run by Brian Lewerke.

Watch his quick reaction and tough dive into the end zone:

The Spartan quarterback leads the team in rushing this season and this is one of the reasons why. He’s good at making quick decisions when nothing is open down the field. The middle of the defense opened up for him and he dove with no regard for his body to score the game’s first touchdown and silence the Michigan Stadium crowd.

Although Lewerke couldn’t get anything going through the air, he found a way to put the defense on notice with his legs. He’s going to be the reason Michigan State’s run game has a chance to get anything going. He passed for just two yards and looked shaky in the first quarter.
