Michigan State Football: Brian Lewerke taking right steps forward
By Stephen Robb
Michigan State football has a rising star starting at quarterback in 2017 and Brian Lewerke is taking the necessary steps forward.
Brian Lewerke has already separated himself in this quarterback competition. Now he appears to be taking the necessary steps to becoming an elite Big Ten quarterback.

Gerry DiNardo on BTN Live commented that Lewerke was getting the ball out on time. It was a simple statement, yet one that Spartan fans have not heard since the Connor Cook days.
What does it mean? Nothing? Something? It means Lewerke is building a chemistry with his receivers and this is a huge deal considering he was injured during the Michigan game and was out for the rest of the 2016 season.
Brian is a gritty quarterback who showed considerable promise during the disastrous 2016 season. In high school, he played with a broken finger on his throwing hand during a playoff game against Pinnacle’s rival Phoenix Horizon.
Building a rapport with receivers will only lead to success on the field. It was something that was missing last season with Tyler O’Connor, albeit there were glimpses of it with RJ Shelton against Indiana and that 86-yard grab, which helped him with a huge day receiving.
It will be critical for the Spartans to get Lewerke and the passing game going against Bowling Green. I would not be surprised if MSU comes out throwing that game to build Brian’s confidence and set the tone for the season.

In order for Michigan State to have a rebound year then it will be important for Lewerke to continue to take steps forward. He has the talent and ability to do it, however, he must put it all together for the Spartans to go far.
