According to reports out of Dolphins camp, Lippett has torn his Achilles which would mean that his season is over before it even started. This is a tough blow especially since he was expected to be a breakout star for the Dolphins in 2017.
Lippett was drafted following the 2014 season when he won the Big Ten Receiver of the Year award, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark as Connor Cook’s favorite target. Throughout his career, though, he showcased the ability to play both sides of the ball for Mark Dantonio.
It wasn’t much of a surprise when the Dolphins picked him in the 2015 NFL Draft as a cornerback, but it showed how athletic he truly was. He could win the conference’s top receiver award and then turn around and play defensive back in the NFL.
Through two seasons, he was making a name for himself as a serviceable backup and he was looking to win a starting job in 2017. However, this injury is something that will take a while to come back from.
Adam Gase has to be frustrated with the injuries that have already plagued his team. First Ryan Tannehill and now Lippett — both promising young stars.
