For the first time in a while, Michigan State football’s LJ Scott is healthy and he claims he’s “back and better” than before.

Over the years, you could look at Michigan State football’s backfield and pretty much guarantee a 1,000-yard rusher would be present. However, that hasn’t happened in two seasons despite LJ Scott nearly reaching that impressive plateau in 2016.

The then-sophomore running back was just six yards shy of the mark before going down with an injury against Penn State, ending his season a couple quarters early.

According to Luke Srodulski of Land of 10, Scott had some encouraging words, maybe even a warning for the rest of the Big Ten at Michigan State’s media day Monday:

"“I’m back. I’m back. I’m back and I’m better.”"

While this isn’t an in-depth quote from the All-Big Ten caliber back from Ohio, it’s one that should provide hope for Spartan fans. Hearing the presumed No. 1 back enter fall camp by saying he’s better than he was before a breakout 994-yard season is intriguing, to say the least.

Through two seasons with Michigan State, he’s had to split carries with Madre London and Gerald Holmes, yet he’s still racked up over 1,500 yards. He’s on pace to pass the mark set by Le’Veon Bell during his time in East Lansing.

However, in order for him to truly be better than before, he needs to work on his pass protection. That’s something that kept him on the bench in crucial situations over the past couple of seasons.
