For anyone who has followed the career of Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio, it’s not surprising to learn his name has been cleared in the ongoing investigations into the program’s sexual assaults this offseason.

No, the head coach was never involved first-hand, but an external investigator was hired to find out if there was any wrongdoing or cover-up by the coaching staff. On Monday, the Jones-Day report revealed that Dantonio handled everything correctly.
Surprised? You shouldn’t be.
Dantonio has made a career out of being a hard-nosed, honest coach who plays everything by the book. While he may not always make his rivals happy, he is usually doing the right thing on and off the field.
Respect goes a long way in the college football business and being cleared in this investigation of any wrongdoing is a huge relief for Michigan State. Not that anyone truly believed Dantonio was in the wrong, but just to hear from an external investigator that he followed all the rules and procedures to a tea was a good sign.

This puts Michigan State one step closer to removing this lingering black cloud with the investigation and trimming the fat from the program. It’s time to move forward and the Michigan State Board of Trustees even gave Dantonio and AD Mark Hollis a vote of confidence.
