Michigan State basketball is now the sole favorite to win the 2017-18 national title, according to Las Vegas.

We are in the middle of the offseason, but Michigan State basketball is still making headlines. Although the Spartans finished 2016-17 with a mediocre record, under Tom Izzo’s standards, they will be returning a ton of talent, while bringing in more, for the 2017-18 season.

This has led Las Vegas to believe that Michigan State is the favorite to bring home the national title next season.

According to CBS Sports‘ Kyle Boone, the Spartans have now jumped Kentucky as the lone favorite to win the 2017-18 national title, says Vegas.

The Spartans opened as 20/1 favorites which put them in the top 15 range, but they have since improved their odds to 7/1. What happened to improve their odds that much? Well, Miles Bridges announced his return for one more season and Ben Carter was granted a sixth year.

Unlike last season, Michigan State will have depth in the post with guys like Gavin Schilling (also returning after missing 2016-17 with an injury), Carter, Nick Ward, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman. Mix that with wings like Josh Langford, Matt McQuaid and Bridges and guards like Cassius Winston and Tum Tum Nairn and you have an elite, deep team.

Do you think Izzo is close to bringing in his second national title? With the talent he has coming back next season, it would be a disappointment to miss the Final Four.
