Michigan State Football: DE Robert Bowers could be a force in 2017

Robert Bowers could be a major factor on the defensive line for Michigan State football this fall.
Robert Bowers is a 2014 class commit out of Columbus, Ohio, and Walnut Ridge High School in the backyard of the Buckeyes, but he decided to call Michigan State home.

The junior is 6-foot-5 and 238 pounds with incredible length. He held other offers from Louisville, Kentucky and Bowling Green. He is a classic Mark Dantonio-type player who has risen through the ranks after a redshirt year with the proverbial “chip on the shoulder” after being passed over by Ohio State.
Moreover, the Ohio-native has superior quickness and never gives up on a play. I was impressed in his pursuit ability and how he took proper angles to the ball. There was a noticeable change last year when he entered the game. He is athletic enough to drop into coverage.
Often I watched on film how Bowers would start on one end and pursue the ball-carrier or quarterback all the way across the field. He gives full effort on every play and leaves it all on the field. The Spartans will be young at the defensive end spots this year with possibly two new starters.

However, what excites this writer about Bowers and the other defensive ends is that there will be solid effort with a push from the line. Bowers is exactly what the Defensive desperately needs a player well versed in the defensive schemes who will go all out.
