Former Michigan State football cornerback Darian Hicks has signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.

It wasn’t easy to fill in for guys like Darqueze Dennard and Trae Waynes as a sophomore and junior, but former Michigan State football cornerback Darian Hicks overcame injuries and inconsistent play to have a solid senior season.

Constantly being knocked for his lackluster coverage skills, Hicks became one of the more consistent players on the team in 2016. Although Michigan State finished 3-9, he was one of the bright spots on a bad defense.

In fact, he finished with a career-high two interceptions and eight pass deflections to go along with 30 tackles during the 2016 campaign.

Hicks might be one of the undrafted Spartan free agents who could catch on with their respective organization. Although he’s already behind the guys who were drafted, Hicks could make a name for himself in training camps and preseason ball.

If he continues to improve his hip speed and aggressiveness, he could be one of the biggest undrafted gems on the market. Chicago got itself a nice piece for the practice squad, potentially, and he could even make a push for the 53-man roster in the fall.

Mark Dantonio was patient with Darian through his injuries and poor play early in his career, but he’s come a long way. Chicago might be able to utilize his talent and translate it to the NFL level.
