Former Michigan State football star running back and current All-Pro Le’Veon Bell took to Twitter to show just how much Rooney meant to him.

It’s not rare to see players take the news the hardest because the owners are responsible for getting, and keeping, these guys on the team. Rooney was one of the most revered owners in the NFL and even has a rule named after him.

In fact, the “Rooney Rule” pertains to NFL teams with head coach of general manager vacancies required to interview at least one minority candidate. This really turned the page on the league and earned him some major respect.

The Rooney family has owned the Steelers since their induction into the league back in 1933 and they have done a fantastic job, winning 22 division titles and six Super Bowls.
