With the 2017 NFL Draft approaching, the Lions may have a need on the defensive line and Malik McDowell could fill it.

The NFL Draft process can be overwhelming for any young prospect. That’s no different for Malik McDowell who struggled with his interviews during the combine process, leaving some teams unimpressed. However, he is an elite defensive line talent.

In fact, when he wasn’t getting constantly double-teamed, he was tough to slow down in one-on-one matchups. He drew a wealth of double teams because of his size and ability to burst through the line, wreaking instant havoc in the backfield.

The hometown Lions may need an interior pass rusher, and McDowell could be that guy. Although he’s been knocked for his work ethic, he has the potential to be an all-pro type of defensive linemen in the NFL. He could be that added pressure that the Lions need up front.

Would the Lions be wise to take a chance on him? Honestly, it’s tough to tell. Detroit has more pressing needs such as cornerbacks or linebackers, but before the season, McDowell was considered a top-10 pick. If he somehow fell to No. 21, the Lions would be wise to snag him.
