Michigan State football could get a major addition back on its defensive line in the form of Cassius Peat.

Losing guys like Shilique Calhoun, Joel Heath and Lawrence Thomas hurt Michigan State prior to the 2016 season and throughout the year, but secondary losses via transfer such as Montez Sweat, Craig Evans and Cassius Peat were nails in the coffin.

However, the Spartans might be getting one of those guys back in the near future.

According to Sean Scherer of 247Sports, he received a text message from Peat after he was asked about potential rejoining the program and the former Spartan left the door open.

"“Might be,” Peat responded via text message when asked if he was transferring back to MSU. “Who knows! God is good. I’m blessed.”"

Scherer went on to say that he’s been hearing that there’s a good chance Peat transfers back to the program less than a year after he was granted a transfer from the staff. He moved back home in August to take care of personal matters, but those have since been resolved.

Just like he did out of high school, Peat committed to UCLA after he departure from Michigan State, but didn’t sign with the Bruins on National Signing Day last week. His official visit to East Lansing back in December seemed to put the Spartans back in the lead.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound former four-star defensive end from Arizona would be a nice addition to the defensive line that was a bit thin in 2016. He may not have an immediate impact, but he would likely be a decent role player and immediately eligible in 2017.
