The staff here at Spartan Avenue has spoken and here are the predictions for Michigan State football’s game against Michigan Saturday.

Saturday’s Michigan State football game against the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines is the biggest of the year. Although they’re playing at home, the Spartans are overwhelming underdogs and the Wolverines are almost expected to blow Michigan State out.

Mark Dantonio has beaten the Wolverines in 7-of-9 years and is looking to make it eight out of 10 with a win Saturday. Will he continue his dominance of the Wolverines or will the Spartans lose six straight games?

Here are the final score predictions from the Spartan Avenue staff for Saturday’s game.

Connor Muldowney: Michigan State needs to play a full 60 minutes for the first time this season if the Spartans want a shot at beating the Wolverines. However, like the first seven games, the Spartans are going to keep it close for a half and then lose it in the third and fourth quarters. Brian Lewerke might get the start and have his first real taste of the rivalry, but Tyler O’Connor might come in for mop-up duty once again. Either way, whoever starts at quarterback will be sent running for their lives with this mediocre offensive line.

Final: Michigan 37, Michigan State 17

Stephen Robb: The question of the week has been how much will Michigan beat MSU by. Many fans and media members have been predicting the score for this game from 100-0 to 45-0 to even 49-6 (that was nice to give the Spartans two field goals).

However, none of these prognosticators are correct. This will still be a close game. The last time MSU was blown out that bad by Michigan was a 2002 Bobby Williams-led team (also he’d lost his team by the Michigan game) that score was 49-3. Will this game be similar to that one?  Not at all. Why? Well, even John L. Smith even managed to keep most of the games close.  Plus MSU is in a different place than that team. These teams under Dantonio care more about this rivalry than others in recent memory.

More from Spartans Football

Michigan State will show up and play its heart out and leave everything it has on the field. This MSU team is young and inexperienced, but it is possible they pull it together for a game of the ages. I expect that from this team.

Michigan will jump out to an early lead, but MSU hangs tough for a slim win. The Spartans have too much pride for this game to get out of hand.  Dantonio will do everything he can to spark this team, including multiple QB switches. I’d like to see Tyler O’Connor or Damion Terry or even Brian Lewerke this game. It will be whoever is the hot hand. It’s college football and anything, yes anything, can happen — even an MSU win.

Final: Michigan 21, Michigan State 24

Colton Wood: As we are just over one year removed from what many consider the greatest play in MSU’s history, Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines look to avenge that shocking loss and continue their run at the CFB Playoff. They’ll do just that. Michigan is 7-0 so far this season led by quarterback Wilton Speight.

Defensively, the Wolverines have probably the best defense in the country with linebacker Jabrill Peppers at the helm. For MSU, stopping Peppers is key to upsetting U-M. However, they won’t be able to. MSU will struggle on offense with whoever is starting at quarterback and their special teams woes will continue. Will they keep it close? Yes, but then the second quarter will start.

Final: Michigan 45, Michigan State 10

Andrew Erdman: Let’s just keep this short and sweet. It won’t be pretty. Michigan State might keep it close for a half but Michigan will pour it on in the second half.

Final: Michigan 49, Michigan State 13
