Michigan State Football: Mark Dantonio’s 15 most memorable games
4. MSU vs. Ohio State (2015)
Dubbed the best ‘modern’ rivalry in college football by CBS Sports, Michigan State and Ohio State have had some classics lately. It started with the Big Ten title game in 2013 and then the Buckeyes stealing a win in East Lansing over the favored Spartans in 2014, answered by Michigan State’s last-second victory in 2015.
Meyer is one of the top-two coaches in college football, and it’s pretty evident if you look at his track record. He brought the Utah Utes to national prominence before leaving for Florida and winning two national titles. He then took over a depleted Ohio State program ravaged by NCAA violations and punishments and led them to 24 straight wins in his first two years and then a national title in 2014.
Only one team has had Ohio State’s number under Meyer’s reign: Michigan State.
Dantonio is 2-2 against Ohio State while the rest of the Big Ten is winless in 30 contests. That’s what you call an even matchup against the nation’s premier program.
Michigan State was without starting quarterback Connor Cook who was out with a shoulder injury in the 2015 meeting and the backup slingers still provided enough punch to record the win.
Oh yeah, and Michael Geiger was pretty solid, too.
Next: 3. Baylor (2015)
