Former highly-rated recruit Caleb Swanigan finally reveals why he decommitted from MSU and chose Purdue.

It’s been a year since Caleb Swanigan was a Spartan for a few weeks. The former Purdue star is testing the NBA waters and finally revealed in draft combine interviews just why he decommitted from Michigan State and chose the Boilermakers.

According to Kyle Austin of MLive, Swanigan wanted to play primarily power forward and not center at the next level.

"“Being able to play with two seven-footers, that made me play the four and guard smaller people,” Swanigan said.Swanigan said he wasn’t sure that he would be able to play exclusively power forward at Michigan State.“It could have happened at Michigan State, but it could have not,” Swanigan said. “But with two seven-footers, there was no chance I could play the five.”"

Austin made the point that no rosters had changed from the time he committed to MSU to when he decided to de-commit and choose Purdue, so he knew all along what he’d be likely to play at each school. He claims he committed too early.

That makes no sense seeing as he committed basically at the last possible moment. He had been recruited by each school for months and he was likely told where he’d be playing, but for some reason he changed his mind at the last second? Not buying it.

Swanigan made the choice that was best for him, but in the end, his decommitment was a little fishy and the fact that he waited this long to come out and say he wanted to play exclusively power forward is odd.

Plus, Michigan State would have had Gavin Schilling, Deyonta Davis and Matt Costello playing the five.
