Michigan State Football: Top 30 games in school history
25. MSU vs. Michigan (1995)
Everyone knows how intense the Michigan State vs Michigan rivalry is by now even if Wolverines fans would argue that the rivalry isn’t even close to what it is with Ohio State. This was one of the better, yet least talked about, rivalry games between the Spartans and Wolverines and further proof that these two teams just don’t like each other.
Entering the fourth quarter with a 14-11 lead, Michigan State looked to really just hold the lead and hope for a nice win over No. 7 Michigan. However, the fourth quarter was as wild as any in recent memory, totaling four lead changes.
With a little over two minutes left, the Spartan Stadium crowd saw the Spartans down 25-21 with a long 4th-and-11 looming on their over 31-yard-line. Tony Banks dropped back and completed a pass that had just enough on it to give MSU a first down by inches.
That final drive by the Spartans was impressive as Banks looked like a magician. With about a minute and a half remaining, Banks threw the ball up to Derrick Mason and it looked as if it would be picked off, but the receiver stayed with the ball and caught it off a tip, setting up the next play at the Michigan 26-yard-line.
Banks hit Nigea Carter with 1:14 left in the fourth for the game-winner and it was all over.
