The Michigan State vs Purdue matchup has been a very close one on the field over the past few seasons, but this year will be different. For head coach Mark Dantonio, who has won 30 of his last 33 games, losing in upset fashion is something that he rarely does — dating back to about 2009 against Central Michigan at home.
The Spartans are the much stronger team in this matchup and many people think this one will end up as a blowout. I don’t necessarily think the Spartans will embarrass the Boilermakers like they should, but Michigan State will win in overwhelming fashion.
Michigan State football has its highest ranking since the 1960s resulting from the team that Mark Dantonio has put together and it’s hard to believe that this is the first time since 2010 that the Spartans have gone into Big Ten play, and even just October ball, with an unblemished record.
Could this be the year Michigan State wins the national title, putting all the doubters to shame and resurrecting a program from a six-plus decade drought from a national championship? Time will tell, but this is definitely the most talented group of Spartan players in the Dantonio era and if any team is going to contend for a title in the near future, it’s this one.
Let’s take a look at the five reasons MSU will start the case for a title and beat Purdue on Saturday.
