Do you remember the last time Michigan State was ranked No. 2 in the country? Most of us weren’t even alive the last time the Spartans were ranked this high, so as fans, you should not be taking this current program success for granted.

The Spartans are looking to capitalize on the early-season recognition in Saturday’s Central Michigan vs Michigan State matchup that will feature two potent aerial attacks led by the Chips’ Cooper Rush and MSU’s Connor Cook. These two quarterbacks have a whole bunch of passing yards this season while Cook is the only one with a legitimate shot to be a Heisman candidate.

It’s guys like Madre London, L.J. Scott, Vayante Copeland and Montae Nicholson who have people excited about the future of this program.

London is having a great year, rushing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns while Scott has 176 yards and two scores on the ground as well. Both are freshman running backs and both are sharing starting duties this season after Jeremy Langford has since moved on.

Copeland was named the starting cornerback opposite Demetrious Cox to begin the season, but suffered a broken vertebrae in week two against Oregon and will miss the rest of the season. He’s one extremely talented redshirt freshman.

Last, but not least, Montae Nicholson might have the most potential of any member in the secondary. He’s got all the talent in the world, but needs to show it on the field.

Let’s take a look at the five reasons why these guys, and many others, will help the Spartans beat the Chippewas on Saturday.
