For the past few years, Michigan State football has been criticized for some of its takes. Fans have said that the roster was constructed to compete in the MAC and not the Big Ten.
And for years, those critics have been right.
Michigan State has missed three straight bowl games and is now on its second coach since COVID-19 as Jonathan Smith replaced Mel Tucker last season. The talent on the roster has not been up to par for the Spartans' standards, especially with how much NIL money the program can offer and the history and tradition that Michigan State provides.
Well, slowly but surely, the Spartans are purging some guys that just don't fit the new mold and they're finding new homes in smaller conferences -- the same happened in the early days of Tucker.
Two former Spartans actually just reunited on the same MAC team over the weekend. James Schott, who entered the portal after spring ball, just committed to Miami (OH) on Sunday, joining former teammate Bai Jobe on the defensive line there.

Schott will join 2023 Spartan teammate Bai Jobe as an edge rusher with the RedHawks.
Schott played in 19 games with MSU and had 5 tackles.
Congrats and good luck, James! https://t.co/UMonMLCcMQ
Schott committed to the RedHawks, joining Jobe who played in East Lansing for one season under Tucker (really only a few games) and decided to hop in the portal. Jobe was Tucker's highest-rated signee ever and the hopes were high for him to become a star in East Lansing. That didn't pan out and he was dealt some rough cards as his coach was fired a few games into his freshman year. He ended up transferring to Kansas where he played minimally.
Now, Jobe is at Miami (OH) and he'll be joined by his former teammate and fellow edge rusher.
While these guys didn't leave huge marks with Michigan State, I will be following them at Miami (OH) to see how they fare in the MAC and if they wreak havoc like I believe they should.
