3. Newcomers rising up the depth chart

There are so many newcomers already on campus participating in spring drills and practices and leading up to the spring game on April 16, there’s plenty to be excited about with this group.

I’m interested to see guys like Alex VanSumeren, Katin Houser, Germie Bernard, Dillon Tatum, Jaden Mangham, Caleb Coley, Jack Nickel, Ameer Speed, Khris Bogle, Aaron Brule, Jacoby Windmon, and Jalen Berger compete and earn spots on the depth chart.

Each of the guys mentioned above could seriously make the two-deep depth chart with strong springs and a subsequent solid summer but I’m interested to see who.

VanSumeren is the top-ranked MSU signee from the 2022 class and he joins a group that needs some depth so he could play early, Houser could win the role of backup to Payton Thorne, Bernard has a real shot to be WR3, Tatum and Mangham are both vying for time at safety, Coley could be a surprise riser at cornerback, Nickel might just win the backup tight end job, Speed is a quality cornerback option from Georgia, Bogle will probably be a top contributor on the defensive line, Brule and Windmon both have a shot to start at linebacker, and Berger could be RB1.

The newcomers are talented and they not only provide depth, but they’re going to help turn the Spartans into a 2022 contender.
