Michigan State Football: 3 takeaways from huge win at Rutgers in Week 6
1. Kenneth Walker III should be the Heisman front-runner
I’m running out of good things to say about Kenneth Walker III not because he doesn’t deserve them, but because I’ve used up all the compliments in the book already.
The transfer running back has been a revelation this season and after he rushed for over 100 yards again last week against Western Kentucky (his third 100-yard game of the year), he broke that mark in the third quarter on Saturday afternoon with a 94-yard touchdown run. While the 94-yard run was impressive, on paper, you have to give some love to the moves he put on Scarlet Knights defenders on the way to the end zone.
Walker finished the day with 234 rushing yards and a touchdown on 29 carries which was good for an 8.1 yards per carry mark. And before you go and say “well, he did have a 94-yarder so that boosted his numbers”, just realize that he reeled off a number of chunk runs throughout the game.
He put up these numbers despite getting hit in the backfield on a regular basis.
Michigan State is now the first team to be bowl eligible in the Big Ten this season and Walker is a big reason for that. He needs to be the Heisman front-runner.
