4. Spartans finally have 1,000-yard rusher

A 1,000-yard receiver and 1,000-yard rusher on the same team at the same time? Yes, believe it or not, Spartan fans, it’s possible.

Cody White will reach 1,000 yards receiver and while he’s aiding the passing attack, one running back will break out and take the reins, rushing for over 1,000 yards. When this happens, that rusher will become the first back to do so for Michigan State since Jeremy Langford in 2014.

It’s crazy that a Mark Dantonio team hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2014, but there has been no true No. 1 back since Langford. LJ Scott finished just shy of that mark twice in his career but he still had to split carries with guys like Madre London and Gerald Holmes.

Who will be the back to reach the coveted mark? That’s the toughest question to answer of all. If I’m going with really bold predictions here, I’m going to say freshman Anthony Williams Jr. has the highest potential of all with Eli Collins not far behind. I like La’Darius Jefferson but he still has a lot to prove and Connor Heyward has the look of a third-down or goal-line back.

Heck, I could be proven wrong and Heyward could be the 1,000-yard rusher with Jefferson right behind, but all I know is that one back will stand out and get the lion’s share of carries.
