2. Defense allows more rushing than passing yards

Western Michigan’s rushing attack is one of the best in the country that no one talks about. Just how good are the Broncos on the ground? Well, they ran for 263 yards against USC in Week 1, falling just short of an upset bid.

During a game in which starting quarterback Jon Wassink looked like the first-time starter that he is, the run game picked him up. LeVante Bellamy led the team with 102 yards on nine carries while Jamauri Bogan added 77 yards, Jarvion Franklin 40 yards and Wassink had 32 yards rushing.

This team can flat-out run the ball and there are 3-4 good options to do so, including the quarterback. That will translate into another solid showing, although not dominant, against a tough Michigan State run defense. The Spartans didn’t allow any big plays last week on the ground, but that could change here.

I expect the Spartans’ stout run defense to allow more yards than the secondary allows passing yards. That may come as a shock, but with a young, unproven quarterback, the Broncos are going to rely heavily on the run.
