According to draft expert Todd McShay, Michigan State Football’s Malik McDowell is the best prospect he’s seen for 2017.
Michigan State has had a player selected in the first round of the NFL draft in each of the past three years and it’s looking yo masker it four straight in 2017. The key NFL draft prospect who could make that a possibility is Malik McDowell.
It’s not every day you catch an ESPN personality saying good things about anything Michigan State related, but Todd McShay had glowing compliments for McDowell.
The top prospect he’s seen so far is Malik McDowell. Let that sink in for a second.
McDowell has only played extensively in one season and he’s entering his junior year coming off a 41-tackle, 13-tackle for loss and 4.5-sack performance. He’s one of the Big Ten’s best defenders and is widely considered to be an early first-rounder next year.
Think of all the elite talent which will be draft eligible next season. You have Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Jourdan Lewis, Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Royce Freeman, JuJu Smith-Schuster and many more. McShay believes McDowell is a better pro prospect than each of those guys.
Heading into his junior year, it’s a consensus opinion that he will be leaving a season early. Chances are he will be in the running for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and he is already thought to be one of the top D-linemen in the nation.
McDowell is drawing some extremely high praise.
