Michigan State recruiting could be getting a visit from five-star 2017 power forward P.J. Washington soon.
While four-star power forward Taurean Thompson visits East Lansing Sunday and Monday, the Spartans could be planning another big visit for an elite power forward in the near future.
According to Jerry Meyer of 247Sports, Washington revealed the programs who have been recruiting him the hardest. He mentioned North Carolina, N.C. State, Arizona, Kentucky and Texas but no Michigan State.
Still, though, he admitted that he’d like to take a visit to Michigan State soon as well as Florida and Oregon.
At this point, it seems like Washington could be headed to Kentucky with Texas not too far behind in the race. However, his recent trip to North Carolina earned a Crystal Ball for the Tar Heels on 247Sports. Roy Williams seems to get top recruits every year, and it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see him wrestle Washington from Kentucky, Texas.
Michigan State might be on the outside looking in, but the fact that he said he wanted to visit East Lansing despite the Spartans not recruiting him the hardest is a definite positive sign.
Getting Washington to campus would be nice, but it may seem like Tom Izzo is already conceding defeat in the race for him. The head coach has turned his attention to guys like Brandon McCoy, Jaren Jackson and Malik Williams.
Washington is ranked the No. 23 overall prospect and eighth-best power forward in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports. He did recently name Michigan State in his top 12 recently.
