Michigan State recruiting’s chances of landing four-star power forward Taurean Thompson have increased significantly.
Michigan State could add yet another big target to its 2016 basketball recruiting class in the near future if Tom Izzo can get four-star 2016 power forward Taurean Thompson on campus before he makes a decision.
According to 247Sports‘ Jerry Meyer, Thompson is down to three schools, and Michigan State is one of them. The other two still in contention are Syracuse and Seton Hall. Meyer had this to say:
2016 power forward Taurean Thompson is closing in on a decision, and Michigan State, Seton Hall and Syracuse are the contenders.
6-9, 200-pounds and out of Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy, Thompson has recently visited Seton Hall and Syracuse. Michigan State, however, recently entered the fray with an offer last week.
There is a good chance Thompson visits Michigan State, but that is not a certainty at this point.
The fact that the Spartans have jumped in so late in his recruiting process and are still in his top three indicates that he likes what he’s hearing from Izzo. Getting him on campus is the next step, and an apparent official is being worked out by both sides, we learned Wednesday.
Thompson is one of the biggest names still yet to announce his school of choice and that bodes well for the Spartans since his presumed favorite, Syracuse, was the destination for an official from the big man last weekend and he came away without committing.
Michigan State still has ground to make up, but this is big news.
