6. Trevon Pendleton 74-yard reception
Not often do you see a fullback make one of the best plays of the entire season, but Trevon Pendleton loves making big-time catches against Michigan and taking it the distance — or close to it.
Michigan State was in need of a big score in the fourth quarter after falling behind 23-14 following a big Kenny Allen field goal. The game looked like it might be over with under nine minutes left on the clock, but the Spartans drew up the perfect play, getting the ball in Pendleton’s hands — wide open — and watching him rumble 74 yards down the field.
The play was originally called a touchdown, but was overturned and Michigan State was given the ball at the one-yard-line of Michigan only to have LJ Scott run it in on the very next play.
Connor Cook and the offense needed a quick score, and they got it. The drive was just two plays and last only 29 seconds, making it a two-point game again with 8:56 left in the game.
Pendleton made a great play against the Wolverines two years ago when Cook rolled right and tossed the ball to the far sideline to the uncovered fullback and he took it 49 yards into Michigan territory. He has a 43.5 yards per catch average against the Wolverines over his career.
Lesson for the day: Never forget to cover the fullback.
