West Virginia was looking like a serious contender for the Big 12 title, but Oklahoma gave the Mountaineers a rude awakening on Saturday, defeating them 44-24. Baker Mayfield had yet another solid game for the Sooners, passing for 320 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. He had to play well in order to make up for Samaje Perine’s rough day.
Notre Dame had a tough week against Clemson, losing by two points after missing a failed two-point conversion on a questionable play-call by the offense, running DeShone Kizer to the right and hoping he could score with his legs from three yards out. The Fighting Irish stayed tough, though, earning them a spot in the top-15 still even after the loss.
The UCLA Bruins were one of our favorites to make the College Football Playoff last week, starting the year red-hot after a blowout win over Arizona on the road. However, they came back to lose to Arizona State at home in week five, falling nine spots in our rankings. Josh Rosen didn’t have a terrible game, but he wasn’t very accurate. The Bruins’ defense just couldn’t stop the Sun Devils.
Ole Miss had the difficult task of traveling to The Swamp to take on the scorching-hot Gators and Florida escaped with a huge win. The Rebels and quarterback Chad Kelly just couldn’t get anything going offensively, and it looks like their win over Alabama a couple of weeks ago was nothing more than a crazy college football happening.
Kyle Allen is continuing his torrid streak this season, adding another 300-yard game to his resume with another two touchdowns. Tra Carson added 110 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Texas A&M Aggies in an impressive 30-17 win over No. 21 Mississippi State at home. The Aggies’ defense is looking more impressive this season.
