Michigan State Can’t Follow Up on Early Lead, Lose 3-2 To Penn State

Penn State overcame an early 2-0 deficit and earned a series split with Michigan State, winning the second game of the series 3-2. It was their first two-game series against a big ten opponent .

Despite a two goal lead in the first period, coming from junior defensemen RJ Boyd and  senior defensemen Matt Grassi, and Jake Hildebrand’s career high 47 saves, it wasn’t enough to keep the Nittany Lions from netting 3 goals on the Spartans.

Penn State rebounded on the Spartans in the 2nd period with a power-play goal, and then notched two more Lions goals in the last period of the game.

Matt Skoff only had to make 31 saves for Penn State as compared to Hildebrand’s 47. Michigan State also went 0/3 on the power-play on the night while Penn State went 1/4.
