The week of June 4-10 is in the books and Michigan State football has made some headlines in the recruiting world.

Michigan State football has made plenty of headlines this offseason in the recruiting world, even adding another commitment last week. Mark Dantonio has done a heck of a job growing his 2019 class while simultaneously working on jumpstarting his 2020 group.

Top schools lists, official and unofficial visits and new offers, Michigan State has been part of it all in the week of June 4-10.

Let’s take a look at this week’s biggest storylines.

Spartans trending with Shivers

Michigan State is in good shape with three-star cornerback Brandon Shivers from Arizona and he made it to campus last Thursday for an official. He was on commit watch, but nothing has officially been made public yet. He’s a good candidate to be then next pledge, but he may want to see more schools first.

Shivers is ranked the No. 867 prospect and 83rd-best cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. His 6-1, 175-pound frame would fit in nicely with the Spartans’ resurgent secondary.

Tykee Smith names top six

A name that hasn’t been all that prominent in the Spartans’ 2019 class is Tykee Smith, but the three-star safety is high on Michigan State. High enough, in fact, to name the Spartans in his top six.

Michigan State made the cut along with West Virginia, Syracuse, Maryland, North Carolina and Baylor. Expect him to get to campus soon for a visit and talk with Dantonio about potentially joining that loaded secondary.

Smith is ranked the No. 425 prospect and 33rd-best safety in the 2019 class, reigning from Philadelphia.

Damon Kaylor commits

A 10th pledge joined Michigan State’s 2019 class on June 6 in three-star tackle Damon Kaylor. Before you panic and ask the question that everyone else has been inquiring, no, his commitment does not negatively affect the Spartans’ chances for Devontae Dobbs.

Kaylor is a big dude at 6-foot-6, weighing about 315 pounds, and is currently the lowest-rated commit in the class. The Indiana-native picked the Spartans over his in-state Hoosiers who had just offered a few days prior to his commitment.

2020 legacy plans visit

Darius Snow, a legacy recruit from the 2020 class, is planning his visit to East Lansing for June 20, the week after taking trips to Georgia and Alabama.

Snow is the nephew of Percy Snow, a former Michigan State linebacker, and son of Eric Snow, a former Spartan basketball star. He’s one of the top 150 recruits in the 2020 class and could be a heck of a way to start out that cycle. There will be some elite teams battling for the defensive back from Texas.

Tre Mosley enjoys his visit

One of the top remaining targets in Michigan State’s 2019 class is three-star receiver Tre Mosley from West Bloomfield, Mich. He recently named his top schools, which included the Spartans, and took a visit to East Lansing with a couple of his teammates.

This is a crucial time in his recruitment and if the Spartans can distance themselves from the rest of his top schools with unofficial visits like these, they’ll win out sooner rather than later.

Mosley is ranked the No. 677 recruit in the nation as well as the 87th-best receiver and 17th-best in-state prospect. He seems close to a commitment, but may not be done with his visits just yet.

Michigan State makes 3-star DT’s new top 10

Isaiah Gibson had named his top 10 schools back on May 2, but has since received offers from some big-time programs, such as Michigan State, which has had an affect on his eventual decision.

With these new offers, Gibson decided to release a new top 10 on June 8, just over a month later, replacing Louisville, Cincinnati and West Virginia in his original with Michigan State, Wisconsin and Georgia Tech.

Gibson is listed as the No. 869 player and 58th-best defensive tackle in the 2019 class and clearly has plenty of suitors. The Springfield, Ohio, native stands 6-4 and weighs in at 298 pounds, making him a monster of a defensive lineman. The Spartans offered on May 10.

Spartans offer top Ohio tight end

Josiah Scott went from Fairfield, Ohio, to East Lansing to become a star and his former teammate Erick All may just do the same.

Michigan State offered the three-star tight end from Ohio on Sunday and it seems to be a scholarship that could gain some traction in his recruitment.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end holds 25 offers, including from the likes of Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin. He’s ranked the No. 475 recruit and 22nd-best tight end in the 2019 class. Keep an eye on this recruitment.
