Although his recruitment has been relatively quiet, Michigan State football is hoping to land four-star linebacker Lance Dixon from West Bloomfield.

The state of Michigan is rich with football talent, and that has never been as clear as it is in the 2019 recruiting class. Michigan State is looking to capitalize on that talent in its own backyard, targeting each of the top players, including West Bloomfield’s Lance Dixon.

It won’t be easy to land Dixon, though, as he’s been drawing interest from just about every top Big Ten program, including Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin. He recently took a trip to Madison to visit the Badgers, making Michigan State’s job that much tougher.

Although 247Sports‘ Crystal Ball has Dixon favored to pick the Spartans with 67 percent of the predictions, he may be keeping his options far more open. There doesn’t seem to be a clear favorite in his recruitment heading into the summer.

The race for Dixon has become much more difficult now that he’s been dominating at spring camps, including winning The Opening regional linebacker MVP in early May.

That dominant performance at the regional camp, which earned him an invite to The Opening in Oregon, has caused 247Sports to five him an impressive rankings boost. He went from outside the top-100 nationally to No. 71 and is now ranked the fifth-best outside linebacker.

Is there enough mutual interest to harvest serious excitement for Dixon? Time will tell, but right now, the Spartans can just continue to recruit him as his recruitment is wide open. He’d be a heck of an addition along with Marcel Lewis and Luke Fulton.
