Michigan State football lost another player to transfer as junior Kyonta Stallworth has announced his decision to finish his career elsewhere.

Depth has been one of the major points of pride for Mark Dantonio over the past decade. It has served the Spartans well as Michigan State continues to win 10-plus games on a regular basis, totaling 100 in the 11-year career of Dantonio.

Unfortunately, that depth took a hit on Saturday as junior defensive tackle Kyonta Stallworth has announced his intention to transfer.

Though he announced he’ll be playing the rest of his college career elsewhere, he stated that he will always be a Spartan first, thanking Dantonio for the opportunity.

This transfer seemed to be rumored for a while now as Stallworth wasn’t listed on the depth chart this spring and was a name that seemed to be swept under the rug since the conclusion of the 2017 season.

Stallworth played in just four games as a sophomore, recording 11 total tackles. That may not seem like much production, but he provided depth at a position of need, and defensive tackle isn’t gaining much in terms of pieces for 2018. Naquan Jones and Gerald Owens provide the only true depth with experience. Incoming freshman Dashaun Mallory could be a nice addition as well.

Michigan State will need to fill the tackle position in the 2019 class and Stallworth’s departure hurts more than people may think just by looking at his numbers.
