Michigan State football will have a true freshman starting at cornerback when fall starts as Josiah Scott has established himself, per Mark Dantonio.

Not often does a true freshman make such an impact on Michigan State football that head coach Mark Dantonio names him a starter before the season even begins. Well, Josiah Scott is a special exception to that.

At 2017 Big Ten Media Days, Dantonio talked about a potential rise of the true freshman cornerback, even going as far as to say he’s established himself as a starter.

Scott was one of the more underrated recruits in Michigan State’s 2017 class, listed as a mid-to-low three-star on 247Sports. It was surprising to see him go so far under the radar in a state where talent is oozing from every pore.

However, the Spartans landed Scott and he might just turn into one of the top young cornerbacks in the conference this season. If you watched the spring game in April, you would have seen him play well enough to wow the crowd and he even recorded a pick and the game-winning pass break-up in the end zone.

The Spartans’ secondary will be extremely young this season, but the talent is there. Scott will likely be starting on the opposite side of Justin Layne, a sophomore and converted wide out.

If all goes as planned this fall, Scott will establish himself as an All-Big Ten performer as a true freshman and become the next Darqueze Dennard-type talent to come through East Lansing.
