Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo checked in on 2019 five-star small forward Keion Brooks Monday.

With the 2018 recruiting class all but sewn up, with the exception of a couple top targets, Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo has been on the recruiting trail for 2019 targets lately. One of those top names in 2019 is five-star small forward Keion Brooks from Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Hall of Fame head coach has been checking in on targets at the Peach Jam this past week and Monday it was Brooks who caught his attention, according to a report on Twitter.

Izzo has been busy this summer, reeling in 2018 four-star forwards Marcus Bingham Jr. and Gabe Brown on top of Foster Loyer and Thomas Kithier. The 2018 class may not be filled with McDonald’s All-Americans, but it’s about as deep and talented as any in recent memory.

Looking ahead to 2019, there are a few guys who should be top priorities for the Spartans. One of them is Brooks, followed by in-state stars Romeo Weems and Mark Watts.

Brooks stands 6-foot-8, weighing in at 185 pounds and would fill a position of need for the Spartans’ future class. Michigan State has been low on wings lately, and Izzo has been on a mission to address that. Both Brown and Bingham are versatile enough to play on the wing, but it would be nice to have a solid three like Brooks.

Indiana seems to be the main competition for Brooks, but Michigan State may just be the leader right now — new Hoosier coach Archie Miller is looking to change that. Brooks is ranked No. 21 in the country and as the eighth-best small forward, according to 247Sports‘ composite. He’s Indiana’s No. 1 recruit.
