Michigan State basketball checked in on 2018 five-star shooting guard Luguentz Dort on Thursday afternoon.

The 2018 Michigan State basketball recruiting class is shaping up nicely, but if there’s one positional need for the Spartans, it’s a wing. The coaching staff stopped by to check in on Luguentz Dort, a five-star shooting guard from Orlando, Fla., via Canada, Thursday during his game.

Sure, Gabe Brown has the ability to play anywhere from the two to the four, but one wing isn’t going to be enough in the 2018 class, especially with the position so thin currently.

The coaching staff is making a push for the five-star prospect who has elite-level athleticism, but other top programs were also there to visit with Dort.

It’s pretty clear that Tom Izzo wasn’t in attendance, given the fact that Corey Evans didn’t name him personally, but listed two other head coaches. Still, it’s obvious that the Spartans are pushing for the elite shooting guard from Canada who has since moved to Florida to finish his high school career.

One of the top contenders for Dort, Oregon, was also in attendance while Scott Drew of Baylor and Rick Stansbury of Western Kentucky, along with Texas, were also present.

Dort is ranked the No. 22 prospect in the 2018 class as well as the third-best shooting guard, according to 247Sports. Louisville is considered the favorite to land him right now as Rick Pitino continues to recruit well and push Izzo constantly for top players — Brian Bowen was the latest.
