Michigan State football is likely to get an official visit from 2018 four-star linebacker Zakoby McClain in the fall.

Just last week, four-star 2018 linebacker Zakoby McClain from Valdosta, Ga., released his top 10 schools. Surprisingly, Michigan State made the cut even though many fans who followed recruiting hadn’t heard much of him connected to the Spartans.

Apparently, Michigan State linebackers coach Mike Tressel has been working hard to reel in one of the nation’s top players at the position in the 2018 class. In fact, he is one of the main reasons why McClain is so high on the Spartans.

In an interview with Luke Srodulski of Land of 10, McClain talked about why he included the Spartans in his top 10 recently and also a potential official looming this fall.

"“During spring, [Tressel] would come and see me every day and all that,” McClain said, “talk to me about football and their defense, how I could be a part of their defense, how I could be a factor in it all and how I’d like it out there.”…“I’m gonna take an official,” McClain said, adding, “I heard they’ve got a good defense.”"

McClain, while listed as an outside linebacker, can play the role of edge rusher as he sometimes lines up at the line of scrimmage. He can be a quarterback’s worst nightmare as he’s quick to the ball and aggressive with his takedowns.

The Spartans offered McClain back on April 26 and they’ve been working to make sure he’s part of the 2018 linebacker class along with Edward Warinner and Jeslord Boateng.
