Michigan State recruiting may just miss out on a top in-state target for 2018 as four-star power forward Brandon Johns announces Thursday.

Should we be surprised after the rumors of his imminent commitment surfaced on Tuesday? Probably not, but top Michigan State recruiting target Brandon Johns will be announcing his college decision on Thursday at noon.

Johns has been a top Michigan State target for a couple of years now, but a recent Michigan camp appearance and trends by the way of 247Sports‘ Crystal Ball have changed the tides. Plus, current Michigan commit David DeJulius hinted at a commitment from “the best player in Michigan” on Wednesday.

Whatever happens, the four-star power forward from East Lansing will have an instant impact. He is a talented big man who Michigan State may not have valued high enough as it’s rumored Tom Izzo has four-star forward Joey Hauser from Wisconsin higher on his board.

While Michigan seems to be the favorite to land the power forward from Michigan State’s own backyard, the Spartans could turn up the pressure on Hauser, who just visited, as well as Grand Rapids, Mich., four-star forward Marcus Bingham Jr.

Can’t knock the forward from East Lansing for picking the Wolverines, though. You can’t really go wrong with Michigan coach John Beilein who constantly over-achieves and can turn even the mid-level three-star recruits into NBA picks.
