Former Michigan State basketball star Travis Trice is working out with the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

It’s been a while since the name Travis Trice was spoken in NBA circles, but two years after leaving Michigan State, the former Spartan great has found a home in the NBA’s D-League.

However, on Wednesday, the point guard worked out for the Detroit Pistons. The news had to be a pleasant surprise for Spartan fans who always wanted to see the sharpshooting point guard in the league — why not close to home?

If you look at the list, there are also a couple of former Wolverines in Manny Harris and Darius Morris in town to work out for Detroit.

Trice, an Ohio-native, has been playing for the Westchester Knicks, an affiliate of New York, and he’s been fighting for a roster spot for a couple of years. If the rise of Bryn Forbes is any indication, there’s always going to be room for shooters in the NBA.

The former Spartan played just nine regular season games with Westchester in 2016-17, averaging 21.1 points, 6.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds while making over 50 percent of his threes and 90 percent of his free throws.

Don’t let the small sample size fool you, though. He averaged 15.3 points and 5.7 assists in 49 games the previous season — making 48 starts.
