Michigan State recruiting snagged a big fish on Monday in the form of three-star safety Michael Dowell from Lakewood, Ohio.

Michigan State has been a welcoming, family atmosphere for recruits and current and former players. So much so, in fact, that the Spartans have gotten multiple sibling commitments over the past few years. On Monday, Michigan State received another one in the form of three-star safety Michael Dowell.

Michael’s older brothers, Andrew and David, both play for Michigan State and are just the latest trio of Spartan siblings. Before them it was Max, Riley and now Byron Bullough as well as Jack, Brian and now Matt Allen.

The youngest Dowell made his announcement via a video posted to Twitter. In the short clip, he had some of his highlights along with the schools who had offered him. It concluded with him announcing his commitment to MSU with his brothers standing beside him.

Both Andrew and David Dowell committed to Michigan State in the 2015 class as four-star prospects. Michael is considered a four-star by some recruiting services, but is a composite high three-star. Moreover, his brothers may both be starting on Michigan State’s defense in 2017, making his decision even easier.

Dowell is an athletic specimen at safety and can also play with a chip on his shoulder like his older brothers do. He fits right into the Spartan mold and could compete for playing time early, especially with the defensive backfield searching for depth.
