Michigan State recruiting has made the cut for three-star 2018 running back Lyn-J Dixon from Butler, Ga.

The Spartans received some good news on the recruiting trail Wednesday as three-star running back Lyn-J Dixon named Michigan State in his list of top schools.

Although it’s not the most narrowed down list out there, the Butler, Ga., native has just one Big Ten program in his top 12, and it happens to be Michigan State. Michigan had offered, but the Wolverines didn’t make the cut.

Michigan State was one of the most recent schools to offer Dixon who stands about 5-foot-10.5 and 180 pounds. He’s not the typical Michigan State running back, but he has the talent to make him one of the most sought-after backs in the 2018 class.

As the highlights show, Dixon is elusive. The second play is one of the most impressive runs I’ve seen from a running back prospect since I’ve started following recruiting. He saw no opening up the middle, made a quick spin move at the line of scrimmage to avoid would-be tacklers, cut it to the sideline, made a defender miss and then juked two other defenders.

Michigan State likes those players who can turn 1-2 yard gains for most running backs into 5-10 yard bursts — LJ Scott and Le’Veon Bell are good examples. Dixon seems to be able to do just that.

There’s a good reason why services like Scout and ESPN have Dixon ranked so high. Heck, the former has him rated as a four-star and the No. 27 running back in the class and ESPN has him listed as the No. 166 recruit in 2018, also a four-star. However, 247Sports lists him as a three-star and the No. 345 overall recruit.
