Michigan State recruiting looked to be in good position with a JUCO transfer from New York, until he turned out to be a major ‘catfish.’

Michigan State missed out on a JUCO transfer named Unique Brissett II who recently named the Spartans in his top five. The reason the Spartans didn’t land him? Well, because he wasn’t a real recruit, apparently.

If you’ve ever seen the MTV show called Catfish, you’d know exactly what this term means. Basically a catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they’re not on the internet. Brissett, whose real name remains a mystery, was attempting to be a college recruit.

Unfortunately, if you’re like me, you probably fell for the elaborate catfish that “Brissett” pulled off this past week. If you searched his name a week ago, you probably wouldn’t have found anything other than an article talking about how former N.C. State quarterback, and current New England Patriot, Jacoby Brissett is unique.

Heck, he wasn’t even on the radar of any fan until this past weekend when he decided he wanted to be a recruit. He got an edit made for his “top 14” schools and then narrowed that list down to five on Sunday. On Monday, he was down to three, including Michigan State.

According to 247Sports, he was even set to take a visit to East Lansing on Monday. He tweeted about the visit and said he would post pictures later in the day. He did, and that’s how Land of 10‘s Luke Srodulski caught him red-handed.

Sorry, Unique, those are stolen pictures. It didn’t take long for the revelation to spread like wildfire and the “recruit” changed his Twitter account, excluding his fake Hudl account and 247 profile. What’s even crazier is that he used a real recruit’s highlights as his own.

Seriously, where is Nev Schulman when you need him?

When his name surfaced as a possible JUCO transfer addition for MSU, you can bet Mark Dantonio was scratching his head in confusion. Now, we all are.

Who was this mystery recruit and why did he lie about 20-plus offers? Is there someone out there actually named Unique Brissett? Possibly, but he’s not getting recruited to play football.

Note: We have reached out to the person claiming to be Unique Brissett, but no response yet.
