Freshman tight end Jack Camper could be the next two-way player for Mark Dantonio and Michigan State football.

Stop rubbing your eyes, this story is no joke. Michigan State freshman Jack Camper is the real deal. He played tight end for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., a highly-regarded school for producing elite college prospects. He played both ways for the school and even excelled on the defensive side of the ball.

Camper is 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds. An excellent size for a tight end but even better for a defensive end.

Much of the film I watched was of Camper as a defensive end and his athletic prowess jumped off the screen. He has a tremendous quick first step and regularly blew up offensive plays. I realize the Spartans do need tight ends, however, they might be in more need of defensive ends when this ongoing investigation concludes. Camper could be an answer and, in my opinion, a great one.

Dantonio recruits football players and has in the past given his tight ends the opportunity to play defense. He did this with most recently Jamal Lyles and Evan Jones as well as Kellen Davis.

Moreover, Blake Treadwell came to East Lansing as a defensive recruit but became a solid offensive guard. Jeremy Langford was a defensive back turned wide out turned star running back for the Green and White. Also, David Beedle switched from defensive tackle to offensive lineman. Players have a tendency to switch positions and this is not entirely a bad thing.

Camper is a football player and he will excel at whichever side of the ball he is on, because his film reveals that. However, it may come down to which side he is needed most in order to see the field.
