Michigan State basketball recruiting target and five-star big man Brandon McCoy announced his school of choice on Tuesday night via Twitter.

One of the dominoes has fallen in Michigan State’s recruiting class for the upcoming 2017-18 season as Brandon McCoy announced his decision to commit to UNLV.

The five-star McCoy was one of three targets that Tom Izzo and his staff were after along with Mark Smith and Brian Bowen. The 6-11 big man would’ve been a nice addition to the Spartans front court already with Nick Ward and Gavin Schilling, but now they’ll have to wait at least another year before getting help in terms of that area.

According to sites like 247Sports, Oregon and Michigan State had better odds of getting McCoy (Arizona and San Diego State were also in the mix). Head coach Marvin Menzies worked his magic, despite the Runnin’ Rebels finishing 11-21 last season, and McCoy decided to go to Vegas.

With McCoy out of the picture, Michigan State fans will turn to Wednesday’s press conference for Mark Smith at 7 p.m. ET in which he will announce his school decision. Illinois is the heavy favorite leading up to the event, but as seen with McCoy, anything can happen with these young, heavily-touted players.

The Spartans are also waiting on a decision from five-star small forward Brian Bowen, although rumors have circulated that he’s looking for a team in which he can be the main guy at. With Bridges returning to lead the team, Bowen wouldn’t be the main guy at Michigan State.
