Former Michigan State basketball star Gary Harris is close to signing a big deal with the Denver Nuggets, according to rumors.

If you’re a potential one-and-done college basketball player searching for a reason to stick around for another year, look no further than former Michigan State star Gary Harris. Maybe that’s why Miles Bridges was so content with returning.

After a successful freshman season in East Lansing, Harris felt that he had some things to work on as a sophomore and improved in every category. He went from a 20-30 range pick in the first round to a top-20 selection and was picked by the Chicago Bulls in 2014.

Shortly after drafting him, the Bulls shipped him off to Denver in a trade and you can bet the Nuggets are glad they made the deal.

According to reports from ESPN, the Nuggets are interested in signing Harris to a long-term deal. He’s set to become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2018, but can sign an extension between July and October of this year.

Per Altitude Sports, Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly believes that Harris is the perfect role model and potential face of the franchise that Denver needs.

"“He’s a guy that kind of embodies everything that we’re trying to be, both as a player and as a person. Whether it’s this summer or whether it’s the following summer, he’s going to be here for a very long time.”"

“He’s going to be here for a very long time.” That’s high praise coming from the man in charge of making deals with Nuggets players.

With the type of third season Harris just had, there’s reason to believe this deal is going to be gigantic. He averaged 14.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists, shooting 42 percent from 3-point range. All career-highs.
