Laress Nelson, a speedster out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a primetime player in Michigan State recruiting’s class of 2017.

Laress Nelson was a late addition to the Spartan class of 2017. Sean Scherer from 247Sports mentioned that MSU heard about Nelson through MacGarret Kings’ former coach and the Spartans moved quickly to land the speedster. Nelson is 5-foot-10 and 171 pounds of pure athleticism. He played the slot for American Heritage High School and he turned on the jets against defensive backs.

Nelson is an electric punt and kickoff returner, who can take a jet sweep to the house. This kids speed kills defenses. The elusive Nelson has a knack for making the opposition miss. He possesses excellent hands and superior quickness.

I was surprised a player of his caliber (not necessarily by stars, but by talent level) was available this late in the process. Some of that could be his height and weight, as well as the little to no exposure he received. This kid is a playmaker and the Spartans certainly need guys like Nelson on the field.

Who wouldn’t want an excess of explosive athletes?

Nelson will most likely redshirt next season and compete for a role in 2018. He’s dynamic and his lack of offers is mind boggling, yet it does not matter where a player comes from, but where they are going. Nelson is the real deal and Spartan fans should be thrilled to have him.
