Former Michigan State basketball star Branden Dawson surprised his mom with her first car, bringing her to tears.

Branden Dawson was one of the most explosive players to play under Tom Izzo in his Michigan State basketball tenure as head coach. He looked to have a bright future, but injuries and a mediocre jump shot dropped him to the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft.

The Los Angeles Clippers took a chance on him, but he struggled to really catch on with the team. His athleticism is second to none, but it’s tough to find a position in the NBA for a 6-foot-7 forward with no jumper. Not everyone can be Ben Wallace.

Still, he earned a nice payday with the Clippers in his limited time with the organization and saved some cash to buy his mother her first car.

According to spotrac.com, Dawson earned about $525,000 in 2015-16 with the team despite limited action. He was cut by the Clippers before the season and is in the D-League.

Take a look at the new wheels Dawson surprised his mother with on Friday afternoon.

The caption states, “So today I blessed my mom @tallglassofwater219 with her first car. Seeing the smile and tears on her face is something I could never forget. Thanks to my fam who helped put it together.”

Dawson currently plays for the Erie BayHawks in the NBA’s Developmental League and he’s averaging 13.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Interestingly enough, he’s on the same team as former Spartan great Kalin Lucas, 27, who is having an impressive year, averaging 17.5 points and 4.4 assists.

If Dawson keeps improving on both sides of the ball, it may not be long before he’s back in the NBA with former teammates Draymond Green, Denzel Valentine, Adreian Payne and Gary Harris.

Well done, Branden.
