Michigan State football faces the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday night and here’s what Spartan Avenue’s staff believes the final score will be.

If you’re not feeling too confident about Michigan State football’s Week 8 game against the Maryland Terrapins, you’re not alone. The Spartans have lost four straight games and it seems like everyone has jumped off the bandwagon these days.

Mark Dantonio has been in tough positions like this before, though. The Spartans are looking to turn things around and the shuffle on this week’s depth chart as well as the youth movement might spark that.

First, let’s take a look at what the Spartan Avenue staff believes the final score will be against Maryland.

Connor Muldowney: If Brian Lewerke gets the start for the Spartans like I believe he should, this game will play into Michigan State’s favor. Lewerke will engineer a couple of first-half touchdowns and take a 17-10 lead into halftime. Maryland will end up taking the lead back at 23-17 because of yet another sluggish second half start, but the Spartans will score once at the end of the third quarter and another on a 15-yard game-winning run by LJ Scott with less than five minutes left. Michigan State’s lackluster run defense for the third straight game will nearly cost it a win.

Prediction: Michigan State 31, Maryland 30

Daniel Gottschalk: Michigan State’s offense awoke last week against Northwestern, scoring 33 points. Unfortunately, the Spartans could do little to stop the Wildcats after several early three-and-outs. The defense wilted in the second half, allowing 54 points to Northwestern, the most allowed against any opponent since Wisconsin in 2003. Maryland is averaging 250 yards on the ground and Michigan State has struggled to stop the run in its four-game losing streak. The night crowd should make for a challenging road atmosphere. I think the offense continues its rhythm from last week, but the defense will continue to struggle. Maryland’s run game will be too much to overcome.

Prediction: Michigan State 31, Maryland 35

Stephen Robb: It was in last year’s game that Connor Cook was knocked out with a shoulder injury and the Spartans never looked the same and it affected their efforts in the College Football Playoff. Maryland has always been a feisty and scrappy team that can be dangerous. Its starting QB was out last week with an injury and most likely will be back for this game. However, the Terrapins, much like the Spartans, have looked good at times and at others they’ve been terrible. I predict a close game, but the Spartans pull this one out. The defense will be adequate, but it is the Spartan offense that takes a step forward.

Prediction: Michigan State 35, Maryland 31

Andrew Erdman: Michigan State is on a four-game losing streak. How rare is that? Well, since 2013 the Spartans have had five losses total before this season. We’ve been spoiled with consistency and dominance. The good news for the Spartans is that there are a lot of young guys playing and gaining valuable experience which will pay off next year. Brian Lewerke needs to be the guy at QB starting against Maryland and for the rest of the season. This team needs to come out hungry and angry if they truly want to stop the bleeding. A night game against a tough Maryland team is going to be a tough task. I think the defense finally steps up and makes some plays and the offense behind Lewerke will get the job done.

Prediction: Michigan State 27, Maryland 21
