Week five is in the books and we are looking forward to week six and really getting into the heart of conference play. College football rankings are looking more and more meaningless by the week — or at least the early season rankings — as a top team seems to go down every week.

More from Spartans Football

This week was an absolute bloodbath on the gridiron. No. 3 Ole Miss traveled to The Swamp to take on No. 25 Florida and the Gators absolutely put a smack down on the Rebels. I, for one, thought the game would be much closer and in favor of the Rebels, but college football is just crazy at this time of year.

Not only did the No. 3 team in the country fall short Saturday, but the No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8 teams all fell short in what turned out to be an ugly week of college football.

The top-ranked team in the land, Ohio State, also nearly fell victim to an upset as the Buckeyes traveled to Bloomington, Ind., and took on the normally-lowly Indiana Hoosiers. They battled all game long and the Hoosiers had a chance to tie it in the final ticks of the game, but mishandled a shotgun snap and were forced to throw an unsuccessful jump ball in the end zone from 10-yards out with time expiring.

College football rankings this week look to be shaken up a bit, and Spartan Avenue‘s version will also see tons of changes and teams dropping out and being added.
